Faculty History
The Mechanical Engineering Department at Tehran Polytechnic began operating in 1957, simultaneously with the establishment of the university, under the name of the Institute of Mechanics; from this perspective, this faculty, along with the faculties of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Textile Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Civil Engineering, is considered one of the first faculties established at Tehran Polytechnic.

This faculty is one of the pioneers of engineering education in Iran and offered a master's degree in mechanical engineering in 1971 with two majors: solids design and heat and fluids. After the glorious victory of the Islamic Revolution and with the aim of moving the country towards self-sufficiency in industrial production, this faculty launched the field of manufacturing and production engineering, thus taking an effective step in completing the cycle of designing and manufacturing industrial machineries in the country. Also, in 1990, the first doctoral program in mechanical engineering in the country began in this faculty, and thus the honor of the first graduate of mechanical engineering at the doctoral level went to Tehran Polytechnic.
During more than 70 years of scientific activity, this faculty has played an indispensable role in meeting the country's industrial needs and providing professional personnel in the power plant industries, especially in the turbine and automotive industries, and therefore has a brilliant track record. Also, this faculty, by focusing on projects at the frontier of knowledge in the form of master's, doctoral and postdoctoral theses, as well as participating in the implementation of national projects, has made a significant contribution to meeting the needs of various industries in the country. Achieving these lofty goals was only possible thanks to the efforts of patriotic men and women who, in the guise of professors, students, employees and technicians, provided the impetus for the growth and development of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Tehran Polytechnic. The pioneers of this glorious 70-year movement are noble people who, as deans of the faculty, shouldered the serious responsibility of educating the elite of this country. The memory of these intellectuals and scientists will always remain in the hearts and souls of the graduates of this faculty.
