Lower Mining Exploration Costs

Researchers at the Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic) have found a new method that decreases mining exploration costs by 80 percent. This project was conducted by Dr. Adel Shirazi, a post-doc who said that this method decreases the exploration costs considerably.

Preventing "Asphaltene" Residue in Oil Wells

Researchers of the Petroleum Engineering Department of the Amirkabir University of Technology used the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) coding and came up with a software that predicts asphaltene buildup in oil wells. “Using this software, we are able to improve the exploitation and transportation of crude oil for the first time,” said Mohammad Masah, a Ph.D. graduate of AUT.

Meetings to Reduce Electricity Consumption

The Electricity Distribution Company of Tehran asked the universities to turn off cooling systems, remove self-powered generators, use daylight more often, and provide vacation in summer whenever possible. Other useful methods were discussed to reduce electricity consumption during peak hours.

Kazan Federal University of Russia’s Visit

The Vice Chancellor of International Affairs and the head of the application department of Kazan Federal University visited AUT in continuation of their tour of prominent Iranian universities and discussed matters regarding areas of common cooperation and interest with AUT authorities. Talks in regard to cooperation between these two universities were exchanged, about holding a common master’s course and the execution of joint research projects between the respective faculty members.
